Mark Monfasani is a Nurse Practitioner with graduate training in mental health and physical health. He has experience working in psychiatry, primary care, community health, LGBTQ+ health, Transgender health, sexual health, and HIV care. He sees himself as an equal and an ally with clients, which shows in his calm, casual personality and light humor, as well as in his respect for working with each person in their own individual context.
Mark is body positive, kink and poly positive, and gender-affirming, and he supports health at any weight. Transparency and mutual shared decision-making are important to him, and he focuses on respecting individual goals, on harm reduction and trauma-informed care, and on avoiding and healing shame and stigma. He draws on his background, his curiosity and his interest in people to provide well-rounded psychiatric and mental health services that are informed by evidence-based practice, compassion and practicality. His focus is on psychopharmacology, but he uses his understanding of the body, the mind and environment to help people work toward wellness from all angles.
Mark incorporates psychotherapy into treatment and is open and interested in non-pharmacological and alternative treatments.
Susan is a board-certified nurse practitioner of both psychiatric/mental health and physical health. She is passionate about her collaborative work with patients across the lifespan and enjoys working with individuals at various stages of life to assist them in achieving optimal mental health. Susan provides holistic personalized care through ongoing diagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, integrative medicine, lifestyle modification, and when indicated, medication management. Susan is warm, empathetic, and insightful. She is adept at working with individuals who identify with a variety of cultures and subcultures, is genuinely curious and nonjudgmental.
Susan earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Massachusetts Boston, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and a post-master’s certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice. Her professional experiences include work in an inner-city level-one trauma emergency department, academic medical center cardiac transplant step-down unit, gastroenterology clinic, nursing home and acute rehabilitation, inpatient psychiatric unit, and outpatient psychiatric and behavioral health. This wealth of experience informs Susan’s collaborative approach and skill in partnering with her patients to assist them in achieving optimal psychiatric and mental health. Her clinical interests include the intersection of nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental with an individual’s health, major life transitions, integrative and functional medicine.
Eric-Paul “EP” (pronouns: he/him/his) is an ANCC board-certified Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry and Mental Health (PMHNP-BC), has completed an integrative and functional psychiatry fellow under Dr. James Greenblatt, and is currently working toward his Sex Therapy Certification through AASECT.
He can assess, diagnose, and treat individuals of all ages, providing medication management for a wide range of mental health conditions. EP earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and earned his Master of Science in Nursing from Regis College in Massachusetts.
He is an experienced clinician with a diverse set of health care settings, from community clinics to metropolitan hospitals. The majority of his nursing experience has been in the settings of the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units at Boston Children’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital to which he proudly brings this background to his psychiatric care today.
He believes in an innovative and holistic approach to care and strives to collaborate with his clients to establish and effectively meet goals of care. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, EP strives to provide a space that clients feel welcomed and accepted for who they are as individuals.
Jennifer “Jen” Simons comes to Empowered Psychiatry with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field.
As the office manager, Jen plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth operation of the practice on both the clinical and administrative sides. Jen is passionate about mental healthcare and strives to provide and maintain a welcoming and supportive environment for both staff and patients. She understands the sensitive nature of the mental health field and approaches her work with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
Outside of work, Jen enjoys reading thriller novels on the beach, trying new recipes (please share) and spending quality time with her family.
